Emergency Winter Family Shelter

Blue line - small.png

We are opening an emergency winter family shelter for 75 moms, dads, and kids that will run from December 11 through April 30, 2018. The shelter will be located at Congregation Beth Israel in NW Portland; they have been a volunteer partner with PHFS for over a decade, and we are delighted to partner with them to open a shelter in their space. The shelter will be open from December 11, 2017 through April 30, 2018. Click here for more info.

Our Programs

Housing first Program

PHFS helps families experiencing homelessness move back into housing as quickly as possible, usually within two months. We then provide rent assistance and case management for up to 12 months to help families keep their housing.

Temporary Shelter

PHFS operates 24 hours of emergency shelter every day of the year for families experiencing homelessness. We rely on a team of over 800 volunteers to help provide supportive, compassionate services.

Life lab Skills training

PHFS teaches evidence-based classes to help families learn new tools and skills they can use to help them get and retain housing. Our classes include Incredible Years Parenting, Rent Well Tenant Education, and the ARISE Life Skills Curriculum.

Virginia's Story

Meet Virginia, a single mother of two, who experienced homelessness for two years - and kept her job the entire time she didn't have a home. With the support from PHFS, Virginia and her two kids moved back into permanent housing in March 2017. Virginia and her kids are a beautiful example of how housing, resources, and relationships can help transform a family's life for the better.
